Reformation Review 2026: Silk Dresses, Recycled Cashmere and a Footprint on Every Label
It's 7:40 on a Friday, the dinner reservation is at eight, and you need one thing: a dress that slides on, feels like nothing, and makes the walk past the bar mirror a small pleasure. Strapless silk charmeuse with a knotted sweetheart neckline. Flat knee boots for the cobblestones. A recycled-cashmere sweater thrown over your shoulders for the ride home.
That's the wardrobe Reformation sells — pretty, a little flirty, and built around a sustainability story the brand puts on every product page. We went through Reformation's lineup, fabrics, US prices and policies in October 2026 to see what you're really paying for, and how to pay a bit less.
The Story: From a Vintage Rack in Los Angeles
Reformation says it started in 2009 by selling retailored vintage clothing out of a small Los Angeles storefront. It soon moved into making its own clothes with a sustainability focus — the goal, in the brand's words, was to "bring all the benefits of a great vintage dress to the whole industry." The vintage rack never went away: vintage pieces are still sold on the site today.
Today "Ref" covers dresses, tops, denim, sweaters, outerwear, shoes, bags, swim and bridal, plus a current collaboration with Alexa Chung. There are dedicated Petites (for women 5'3" and under, with every measurement scaled down) and Extended Sizes sections.
What Makes Reformation Different
Plenty of labels say "sustainable." Reformation shows its working, product by product.
- RefScale on every product page. The brand calculates each item's carbon and water footprint and compares it with most clothes bought in the US. The Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater, for example, is listed at about 76 lbs of CO2 — about 90% less than most clothes in the US, per RefScale. Reformation says a third-party consultant checks its methodology every year.
- A graded fiber list. Ref grades materials by social and environmental impact. Favorites include TENCEL™ Lyocell, recycled cotton and cashmere, regeneratively grown cotton, EU flax linen and deadstock — leftover fabric from other designers and factories.
- Certified silk. For solid-dyed silks, the brand looks for bluesign® System Partner mills, and uses OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 fabrics with digital printing where that isn't possible.
- Small runs on purpose. Reformation describes a limited production model guided by sales data, preorders and waitlists. The upside for you: fewer people at the party in the same dress.
- Circular plans. The brand is a Network Member of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, ships in 100% recycled polybags and paper mailers, and runs RefRecycling, a post-consumer take-back program built with SuperCircle.
The payoff: you can read the fabric, factory country and footprint before you click "add to bag," so you know exactly what you're buying and how to care for it.

The occasion piece: Radziwill Silk Dress
This is the one that makes people ask where it's from. It's a strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline and a knot detail, cut in 19mm silk charmeuse that Reformation calls "the next best thing to wearing nothing." It's dry clean only. Buy this if you want one silk dress that covers weddings, holiday parties and anniversary dinners.
The everyday upgrade: Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater
Relaxed through the body with ribbing at the cuffs, neck and hem, made from 95% recycled cashmere and 5% cashmere. Reformation says it's designed for every season, over a slip dress or with jeans. Buy this if you want one soft layer you'll reach for daily.
The denim pick: Cary jeans
Wide-leg, loose and low on the waist, in non-stretch twill made from 100% regeneratively grown cotton. RefScale lists a water footprint of about 1,900 gallons — about 87% less than most clothes in the US, per the brand. Care is easy: wash cold, line dry. Buy this if you like rigid denim that softens with wear and you don't mind showing a little midriff. Jeans use waist sizing (the model wears a 24).
The fall boot: Remy Knee Boot
A slim, knee-high boot with a slim square toe, made in Brazil. The product page notes that materials vary by color and that it runs tight through the calves. Buy this if you have slimmer calves, or check the size guide first if you're between sizes.
