Wolf & Badger Materials Guide 2026: Cashmere, Alpaca, Silk and Apple Leather, Decoded
Pick up a sweater in a shop and you can feel the answer: the weight, the warmth, whether it springs back when you squeeze it. Online, all you have is a photo and a line of small print. On Wolf & Badger, that small print is surprisingly good.
Every listing on the marketplace has a Materials & Care panel with the fiber percentages, the care rules and the country where the piece was made. Read it well and you'll know what you're buying before the parcel arrives. We pulled the panels from seven fall pieces on the US site on October 20, 2026, from cashmere to apple leather, and translated what each one tells you.
Where to Find the Fabric Facts
Scroll past the price on any Wolf & Badger product page and you'll hit three tabs that matter: Product Details (the designer's own description), Materials & Care (composition, washing rules and "Made in") and Size & Fit. The composition line is the one to trust when the product name and the percentages disagree, and below you'll see a piece where they do.
If you'd rather browse by fiber, the site's Natural Fibres edit gathers clothing in cotton, linen, silk and wool, and the women's clothing filters let you narrow a category by material.
Cashmere: Light Warmth You Wear Close
The Petrusse Cashmere Triangle Scarf in Maya Black ($488) is about as simple as a label gets: Cashmere 100%. It's a big triangle, 127 × 80 × 80 cm, printed with the house's signature motif and finished with tubular edges. Petrusse suggests wearing it draped or tied, and says the triangular shape structures the silhouette while leaving freedom of movement.
The care panel tells you how to keep it: dry cleaning recommended, gentle ironing at low temperature on the reverse side, and storage flat or rolled, away from light. It's made in China for the brand, and listed as one size.
Choose it if: you want warmth without bulk under a coat collar.
Alpaca: Read the Percentages, Not Just the Name
Two alpaca pieces, two very different labels. The Humans & Land Winter Black Short Coat ($962) lists Alpaca 70%, Wool 30%, made in Italy. It has a straight cut, a notched lapel, patch pockets and an internal button with an invisible hook, so the front stays clean. The brand says only 12 coats can be made from this fabric, and it's dry clean only. When we checked, only one US size 6 was left.
Now the IZABELA MANDOIU Chocolate Brown & Powder Blue Floral Alpaca & Wool Blend Cardigan ($562). Its name leads with alpaca, but the composition reads Acrylic 50%, Alpaca 25%, Wool 25%. That's not a flaw, just useful to know: half the yarn is acrylic. Made in Romania, it's a statement piece with big powder-blue flowers and burgundy botanicals in panels, cut oversized in one size. Care is hand wash in cold water with a wool detergent, no wringing or tumble drying, then reshape and dry flat.

Merino: The Base Layer That Disappears Under Everything
The Baltér Rime Body ($278) is a ribbed turtleneck bodysuit in Merino Wool 100%, made by hand in Warsaw, Poland. The brand calls it a foundational piece that layers easily or stands alone, and as a bodysuit there's no hem to tuck in. The fit note says slim, true to size, with sizing up for more room; US sizes 2 to 10 were listed, with one size down to its last piece. Hand wash cold with a wool detergent and lay flat to dry.
Silk Jacquard: A Fabric That Changes Color as You Move
"Shot" fabric is woven with two colors in different directions, and the Silk and Bears Rosalind Blouse ($264) shows why that matters: the brand describes bright magenta where light hits it full on, deepening to olive and bronze where the silk turns away. The composition is Silk 80%, Viscose 20%, woven in Vietnam, with a dense floral and trailing-leaf pattern. Designed in England and handmade in a limited run, it has gathered shoulders, full sleeves and a single back button above a keyhole. Dry cleaning is recommended, with a gentle cool hand wash as the alternative. US sizes 4 to 10 were listed.
Organic Cotton Velvet: Plush, With Easy Care
Velvet usually means fuss. The KOMODO Sofia Organic Cotton Velvet Trousers in Rose ($208) list Organic Cotton 80%, Polyester 20%, with the brand describing the polyester as recycled and adding that the trousers are vegan throughout and made at a Sedex-audited factory. The care line is the good news: a 30-degree eco machine wash. The cut is relaxed and wide, US sizes 4 to 12, with the 12 running low when we checked.
Apple Leather: A Plant-Based Bag Material
The Cier Flex Vegan Apple Leather Purse ($160) is made from an apple leather material produced in Italy with 66% bio-based content, which Cier says is PETA-approved as vegan. At 8.5 × 5.5 × 3 inches it fits an iPhone Pro Max, swings from an oversized metal chain or a removable crossbody strap, and opens on a double-flap snap to a black-and-gold hexagon-print lining. Care is a soft, damp microfiber cloth, with mild soap only for deeper cleaning. Only one was left when we checked.

Wolf & Badger Fabric FAQ
Where do I find what a piece is made of?
In the Materials & Care tab on each product page, which lists the fiber percentages, care rules and country of manufacture.
Does "alpaca" in a product name mean it's mostly alpaca?
Not always. The IZABELA MANDOIU cardigan above is 25% alpaca and 50% acrylic. Always check the percentages.
Can I return a knit if the fabric feels different than I expected?
Yes, if it's unworn with its labels and packaging, and you request the free label within 14 days of delivery. Personalized and made-to-order items can't be refunded.
The Bottom Line
On a marketplace of independent designers, the Materials & Care tab is your fitting room. It tells you that the Petrusse scarf is pure cashmere, that the Humans & Land coat is mostly alpaca, that the floral cardigan is half acrylic, and that velvet can be machine washable. Read it first, then pick the fabric that fits how you live. Check the Wolf & Badger deals page before you order.
