Dickies Review 2026: Is the Workwear Icon Since 1922 Still Worth Wearing?

Six-thirty on a cold October morning. Frost on the truck windshield, coffee in one hand, and a pair of stiff tan work pants that you know will be soft and broken-in by spring. If you've ever owned a pair of Dickies, you know that feeling: clothes that don't ask for attention, they just show up for work every single day.

That's still the whole idea behind Dickies. We went through the brand's October 2026 lineup, fits, prices and policies on its official US site so you can pick the right pair, jacket or coverall the first time and pay less for it.

The Story: A Small Texas Company That Started With Bib Overalls

Dickies' heritage page says it all began in 1922 as "a small Texas company making bib overalls." A century later the brand says its workwear is sold in more than 100 countries, and it still makes those bib overalls. Along the way the range grew into work pants, work shirts, jeans, outerwear, scrubs and uniforms.

The piece most people picture is the Original 874® Work Pant, which Dickies says has been around since 1967. Its high-rise structured waistband and rigid twill made it a uniform for tradespeople, then for skaters, then for just about everyone who likes a crisp, no-nonsense pant.

What Makes It Different: Tough Fabric, Honest Fits

Dickies doesn't sell fashion that falls apart after one season. It sells clothes built around how you actually move at work. Here's what the brand lists on its product and fit pages:

  • Signature twill. The Original 874 is made of 8.5 oz. 65% polyester/35% cotton non-stretch twill with reinforced seams, welt back pockets and wide-tunnel belt loops. Dickies says it softens with wear, so the pair you buy today gets more comfortable the more you wear it.
  • A fit for every body. The 874 family covers four shapes: the Original 874 (highest rise, relaxed, straight leg), the 873 (low rise, slim), the 877 (high rise, loose) and the 874 Pro Series (high rise, regular fit, tapered). Pick the one that matches your build instead of forcing yourself into one cut.
  • Work-ready finishes. The 874, 873 and 877 come with Stain Release and Big & Tall options. The 874 Pro adds a Flex waistband, mobility fabric, Quick Dry, fade resistance and a cellphone pocket, so you can kneel, climb and reach without the pant fighting back.
  • Real cold-weather gear. The new Duck Insulated range (coveralls, bib overalls and a hooded shirt jacket) carries a "Water Repellent" tag on the site, made for job sites and early mornings when the wind cuts through everything else.

874, 873, 877 or 874 Pro: which work pant?

Go Original 874 if you want the look everyone recognises: highest rise, relaxed through the seat and thigh, straight leg with a slight taper. Pick the 873 if you prefer a lower rise and slimmer silhouette. The 877 gives you more room through the seat and thigh. And if your workday involves ladders and squats, the 874 Pro Series adds a Flex waistband and mobility fabric so you can move freely. Not sure? Dickies has a Pants Finder tool on its site to narrow it down.

Coveralls vs. bib overalls for winter

The Duck Insulated Coveralls cover you from collar to ankle in one piece, so there's no gap at the waist when you bend down. The Duck Insulated Bib Overalls are $30 cheaper and let you choose your own jacket on top, handy when the afternoon warms up and you want to shed a layer. Both are part of an online-exclusive collection on Dickies.com.

Off the clock

Dickies isn't only for the job site. The Off The Clock, Worn In and 247 collections bring garment-dyed cargos, a 247 Shacket ($74.99) and broken-in denim for weekends. There are also collaborations, including Dickies x Budweiser® and Dickies x Harley-Davidson®, plus Big & Tall, women's plus and scrubs.
